'Old Birches Trees over the Stream' was inspired by a visit to a New Forest Stream in February on a day when the light was just right. I have painted leaning beech trees over streams before, but not birch trees. The water was clear and sparking in the sunlight and the dead bracken contrasted with the green mosses on the roots and tree trunks. A New Forest pony grazes by the side of the stream and helps to balance the picture.
The painting has a traditional gold frame with a cream slip.
