2022, "Óin" - stone wall sculpture, ready to hang

This original melted volcanic rock wall sculpture is one of the latest artworks of the talented Bulgarian contemporary professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by postmodernism, expressionism and fantasy. The artwork represents one of the dwarf characters from J. R. R. Tolkien's novels The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. Óin was the older brother of Glóin, cousin of Dwalin and Balin, and uncle of Gimli. He joined with Thorin and Company on the quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain. He fought in and survived the Battle of the Five Armies, and later settled in the Lonely Mountain with King Dain Ironfoot II along with many other dwarves of The Company of Thorin.

The artist's concept is to melt the artwork's stones at high degree temperatures, reaching the point where they melt, going back to their origin magma state and then slowly cooled down. This way the artist restarts the formation of the stone material and brings it naturally back to a new organic shape and name it after one of Tolkien's fantasy characters. The wall sculpture is one extraordinary melted red tuff masterpiece and exquisite modern home wall décor.
