Original artwork description:

This painting juxtaposes an urban landscape of elevated subway tracks, towering construction sites above with a garden imposed on the street below. A line of Rimbaud best evokea the piece: “J’avais été damné par l’arc-en-ciel” (I was damned by the rainbow).

The piece is about the extreme anguish and torment when one realizes one’s deepest desires can also be one’s destruction and renewal.

There are three canvases that are braced together to form one. There are two panels above, each measuring 73 x 60 cm. The base is a third canvas measuring 60 x 120 cm. The painting is composed based on the intersections of these three panels. For example. The foreground male figure on the right spans the lower panel up to the upper right panel. His head and body are separated by the intersection of the two, a fault line, and his right hand cannot reach pass this divide. On the left, the elevated subway tracks are also divided in this way from the garden below.
