NYC19 is an abstract painting contrasting strong line work with a dynamic, almost impressionistic background. Inspired by a visit on a rainy day not long ago to New York city, the painting captures the hustle and bustle of a typical street scene at night. The painting continues a line of night impressions (the Lost in translation series) that capture evening scenes. The composition is deliberately not perfectly centered to introduce a level of conflict to the painting that for me is typical when walking through a dynamic city.
