Each season of the year creates unique colors and light. The intensity and the brilliance of the summer light always fascinated me. My plan throughout the series of birds paintings has been to choose and use color either intuitively or literally based on my direct observations during different times of the year. Summer seems to be my favorite season.
I use wood panels (sometimes canvas). First layer is built with plaster or modeling paste. Acrylic washes are dabbed or poured on the wet plaster/paste. When the surface is dried I manipulate it by sanding and scratching. More layers are added by repeating this process. Oil paint is used for final layer defining shapes referencing birds and nature.
