Adam had been experimenting with oil pastels, turpentine and linseed oil, trying out new ways of making work, exploring erosion of the image, simplifying details, form and without the use of a brush/ brushes and instead using his fingers and rags. He wanted to seek another way of making work without having too much of a removal from the work via tools. Through looking at other artists and making observed studies from them, he sought to further explore their work, through new ways of making.
