I am not quite sure whether the four works in this series are drawings or paintings. Each of the canvasses was first stained with an acrylic wash. Then I drew the figures on with oil bars based on drawings I had made in life classes and later went over the drawn lines with oil paint on a brush. When I was visiting family in Thailand (my father was Thai) I was given a present of seven beautiful swathes of silk each in a different colour for each day of the week. Many years later I used some of each of the swathes to make a multi coloured quilt. But this present and the visits that I made to shops of Thai silk have left me with a fascination and love of colours travelling through various tones. Originally when I started making these works the intention was to make many of them in different tones of all the colours of the rainbow. So far I have only made four but perhaps in time I will go back and continue the project…they are quite striking when hung one above the other.
