Having just recently returned to both The Musee Picasso in Barcelona, and the Musee Matisse in Nice, I was anxious to get back to some Figurative works, to see where some of that inspiration might land. I suppose this a painting is a nod to both Painters, as the two of them often visited the subject of Seated Women, often with emphasis on the way their Subjects were attired, while also juxtaposing colors and patterns in the paintings. These elements have been mainstays in my own paintings throughout my career. In this piece, however, I was keen to keep the lines and shapes simple, the details to a minimum, and return to bold outlines, as I used in my very early works. The canvas is painted around the edges, so the painting can be hung, unframed.
