The fight against COVID 19 in India created a new problem of hunger in poor, migrant labourers and domestic workers.
The women amongst them are disproportionately affected by discrimination and domestic abuse, and yet this marginalised section of society fought back with resilience.
Since last year, I saw elderly women and docile housewives risking their lives, stepping out of their shanties to adapt to new ways of earning livelihood. Unshielded by luxury and privilege, with no time to indulge in playful games with their infants. They refused to buckle down, day after day.
My work ‘Not Today’ is an ode to these courageous and strong women.
