The inspiration of the piece comes from the opening lines of Seamus Heaney's poem, "North".
"I returned to a long strand,
the hammered curve of a bay,
and found only the secular
powers of the Atlantic thundering."
I wanted to capture the movement and engery of the ocean as it pounds the coast. The sea a very power force, that can shape and change seemingly immovable coastlines. But as with all things in life, everything is in flux.
I used acrylics on primed paper to create this piece; using very fluid paint contrasting with rough textures, pulling the pigments around with expressive mark making to capture the moment when a breaker smashes into the rocks.
As it is quite a large piece on paper, rather than roll it for shipping it will be shipped in a flat package protected by strong boards, to allow for easy framing.
Thank you for dropping by and having a look at my work, it's much appreciated!
