Number two in the "No man's land" series
And so I return to another passion of mine, the landscape. The area where I live in Spain, has fantastic rich reds and pinks in the soil, which stand out in contrast with the shadows, cast by the harsh sun. It's a harsh, arid landscape, which is challenging to work.
I enjoy painting in this style, creating textures, marks organic shapes, layering the materials perhaps rubbing back in, as if digging into the landscape. Pierre Bonaire called painting "adventures of the optical nerve" and that's how I approach painting in this style, it's an instinctual approach; starting with a basic composition and then "wrestling" the elements to bring order to "the chaos" of the painting process.
