Nightjar is a painting inspired by a lake within the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire, where the shifting light and seasons provide a range of moods and personalities within a single setting. In the soft, warm light of a rising full moon, the vibrant colours of spring blossom and new foliage seemed to hold on to the daylight and glow, whilst dramatic figure-like shadows echoed the drama on the still pond surface. The painting was made using oil and soft pastel, with collage of papercut and cotton elements, onto mount board.
