Artwork description:

This is a hand printed screenprint on Fabriano Rosaspina 285gsm paper.

Paper size: H45 x W50cm
Image size: H37 x W43cm
Edition size: 25
Five colour screen print.

Based on my local covered market, St Nicks Market in Bristol, which is a five minute walk from my studio. In my version of the market, the people have left for the day, and the creatures of the sea have taken their place. It’s a dream and maybe a vision of the future, and owes something to Maurice Sendak’s ‘In the Night Kitchen’ as well as Edward Bawden’s beautiful London market prints.

In the foreground a shark fisherman displays his catch of the day. A nervous fish passes by swiftly.

Materials used:

Paper, screenprinting ink
