A movie theater is a place where you can escape for a few hours into a different world. The usherette in Hopper's painting probably has seen the movie a thousand times and just waits for its ending.

In the meantime she leans against the wall reflecting her own thoughts. But while doing so she also invites the viewer to reflect on theirs. I invite you to do the same.
