Original artwork description:

Original artwork of New York City painted on canvas and stretched on double wooden bars.

If you are a cityscape painter you have to paint New York City at least once in your life. I was lucky to have visited NYC three times to get a feel for the city. The city is so vibrant and offers so much that each time I visited I discovered something new. This city was not as easy to paint as others because of the large amount of landmarks and symbols. I had to select carefully which ones appealed to me most. The result is one of my latest paintings in the series “Fun Cities & Countries.”

Find out about the details of the painting:

“The Big Apple” is New York’s unofficial name. This is the reason why high above all the skyscrapers dangles an apple on a rope above the city and another symbol of NYC drives above it: the yellow cab.
Below this scene the skyscrapers (Empire State building, Chrysler Building, World One, Flatiron Building) tower above Greenwich Village with its tiny colorful houses. The Bull of Wallstreet and some street signs of famous places in the city complete the composition the signs of Time Square show colorful advertisements.

On the left side the Guggenheim Museum dominates the painting while smaller landmarks (the Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Station and the Washington Square Arch) hanging from a rope between the Empire State building and the Flatiron building.

The background contains typical symbols that are often associated with New York City: traffic lights, metro, hotdog stands and apples.
The color red does not only reflect the American flag but also the color of many apples and the energy that this city has.

Materials used:

Acrylics on canvas
