In the series around the leitmotiv "7sins" I always felt within myself first before I started to look for references in contemporary art and arthistory.
I found that greediness is not only wanting to have a lot,
but wanting to have more than the other(s).
This "more" could consist of tangible as well as non tangible things.
In my visual vocabulary hair is a metaphor for "things that come out of your head" (ideas, judgments, plans, thoughts, visions etcetc). The parallels fit perfect: it's hard to grab, hold on to and they spill from all sides.
So here is this figure that has so much of it, that she is not even able to handle it all, yet the eye doesn't invite the public to share the knowledge. It is wary of being stolen from, whilst the strings dangle around the hands and escape the clenched fist.
In this work you see my enjoyment of painting twirling lines and curves, which are largely enhanced by clean outlines. At the same time there is still the pop-art switching of "reality" within the colors that are out of sync with reality, yet the eye of the beholder accepts these colors as normal..
As always, my canvases are painted on the sides as well, so you are able to hang it the moment you've unpacked it as no frame is really needed.
