‘New Dawn’ is an original hummingbird painting by British artist Sian Storey.

A large square canvas sized at 100x100cm and 5cm depth, Sian used acrylic and spray paint to create this beautiful and serene painting. The warm and soothing colours of pink, Naples yellow, violet and turquoise jump to life against a luxurious backdrop of gold. This painting is a celebration of love and life represented beautifully by the hummingbirds in flight, and vibrant pink peony blossoms.

Feel inspired

Sian is continually inspired by the sheer beauty of hummingbirds and their symbolism of hope. On this painting, she's surrounded them with joyful peony, daisy and sunflower like blossoms that appear to move in a breeze. Here, Sian has used a peaceful circle symbol to represent harmony and eternity.

The title ‘New Dawn' alludes to the beginning of a journey. A new year, a new chapter. The circle symbol represents the cycle of life itself. The birds are flying in unison, they are together forever in the most beautiful blossom painted sky.

How it was created

‘New Dawn' was painted at the end of 2019, being the first painting to launch in 2020. Using acrylics and spray paint, you'll see detailed, delicate brushwork and beautiful mists of spray paint.

Sian paints in layers, as seen in the intricate stencil technique of the background and rich acrylic paint of the hummingbirds and blossoms. The spray paint is used to diffuse edges and lines, creating a hazy, dreamy finish.
