Nedd I is inspired by the rock formations at Afan Nedd (the Neath River, in the Brecon Beacons National Park at Pontneddfechan, which has eroded over the centuries by the tumbling waterfalls which lace the river’s path. Porcelain has been applied to the form along with clay dug from the river which has been fused onto the piece before the tiny particles begin their journey down to the sea. The artist has also used her own glaze which has reacted with the local clay within the bowl of the vessel giving delightful iron spots and a slight glitter to the inner surface, an effect from the wealth of minerals found within these waters.
