Lemons take me back to the roots of my homeland: southern Italy. Here the landscape is dotted with lemon trees, delicately scented and laden with fruit. And the intense scent of the peel, rich in essential oils, invades homes and flavours many dishes in our cuisine.
And when I was a child, on my way home from school on hot days, I used to buy lemon granita, sold in improvised and picturesque kiosks along the road.
For me, the lemon is a symbol of beauty and home.
In this work, I wanted to create an ideal, joyful atmosphere: a terrace by the sea and a small lemon tree in the foreground. The ripe fruit hangs from its branches like little suns, while the leaves sway caressed by the sea breeze, accompanying the slow, incessant rhythm of the sea with their rustling sound.
I have entitled the work "Nascondino" (Hide and Seek), like the game we all played as children, because the observer will feel as if he or she is hiding behind the lemon tree.
