Naomi is an ethnic sculpture that pays homage to women throughout the world and throughout history.
She expresses the softness and raw beauty of femininity through her curves, her wooden headdress and her face with a modest smile, reminiscent of Asian women.
She belongs to the Ostreides series, which expresses the complexity of life in its search for the most appropriate form for survival, as well as the wisdom of the mind applied to the transformation of matter.
Naomi was made from natural gnarled vine wood saved from the flames, since this wood is usually used as common firewood... It is thus all the more representative of the Ostréïdes that it was born from a dead wood and abandoned by all to which it gives again life.
The work is first done on the wood of the vine which must be peeled, cleaned with a magnifying glass, emptied of all the hollows and dirty or crumbling parts, sawed off the unwanted parts and carved with a gouge into the necessary shapes. Then comes the work of modeling the face and the bust with surfine wood cellulose which, once dried, is painted and varnished.
Naomi is mounted on a small black iron base which stabilizes her because her wood is heavy and can be rotated around. She is designed to be placed on the edge of a piece of furniture with her legs dangling, to emphasize her graceful sitting position.
Dimensions with base: H 45 x W 11 x D 45 cm. Dimensions of the statue without base (height between feet and top of the headdress): 56 cm
Unique piece signed under foot.
Materials: natural vine wood, wood cellulose surfine, acrylic paint and water-soluble oil paint, protective marine varnish, black iron base.
