The painting is a portrait of the artist Sophie Soni on her land in Portugal. I was drawn to the image because of the way she blends into the background but equally stands apart from it- creating a disjointed feel. As I worked on this piece I was thinking about grief, the loss of youth and the passing of time and the bitter sweet feeling that this evokes in me.
