Though what might seem a rather strange scene, this painting has a deeper meaning to me. When I saw this bench, with the light cast over it, pushing away the darkness, I was reminded of the scripture, 'My Father's house has many rooms', and considered the space there is on this bench for anyone to sit, with their back to the darkness, face towards the light, a time and a place to commune with God. No matter who or what they're going through, this is a place of peace. As people find increasingly that they're walking through anxiety at different times in their life, to me this is an invitation to stop, rest and get closer to my Father.
