Original artwork description:

Another in my series inspired by African cultures, particularly the sculptures and masks of West and Central Africa. These pictures are my homage to a great artistic tradition. I have had a fascination and love for it since I was a boy and my father had an African mask on his study wall and it's a tradition that has informed my work increasingly over the years. Mukasa is a member of the pantheon of gods of the Ganda people of Uganda. He is the God of prosperity, harvest, fertility and health and in several myths is associated with divination and prophecies. This painting is based on an image in another painting called An Unnamed Seer which I produced from a left-handed drawing (I'm right-handed). I also recycled this image in my picture The Gift. With all this series I'm exploring the relationship between traditional and the modern, bringing an ancient connection with the eternal mysteries into the present.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint and brush pen
