Painted on location in the western deserts, and finished in studio. I was thrilled with how the changing light changed the colors of the landscape. Luminous and magical. Vast and quiet.

I also had a visit from a coyote while I was working on this painting. He was just curious as to what I was doing. Friendly enough fellow, I thought. You can see by the painting how remote the location was, and it was nice of him to keep me company while I painted.

From a painting trip out west in 1991. I sketched and painted my way across the deserts and canyons, making field studies for an eventual studio series of western paintings. I am offering this piece for sale for the first time here on ArtFinder. Other field studies will also be offered as time goes by :-)
