This scene could be the Lake District in England. Or it could be the Highlands in Scotland. Or it could be north Wales. Or it could even be Slovenia. There is a Lake District in Chile, but I have been there and I can tell you, it doesn't look like this. The point is: does it matter where it is? If you have been to the Highlands in Scotland you may well want a painting to remind you of your visit. That's nice. But, then again, if you haven't been there and have no intention of going there in the whole of your life, you may well also appreciate a painting to save you the bother of going there. And depending on where you live, this painting may well be cheaper than hiking all that way. David Hockney paints/ipads a ferocious number of pictures of his garden, and immediate surrounds, in Normandy. If you could afford it you would want a David Hockney - of course you would! - but you probably have absolutely no interest in his garden. You want the scene he paints. This painting is not generic. It is one of the locations mentioned here. But where it is exactly is not that important in the whole scheme of things. Really!
