Artwork description:

A Dyptich of matching teal and ochre abstract landscape canvases from the Isle of Skye.

The Cuillins mountains and the hills of West Skye on days of mist and rain are a myriad of endless curves, lines and angles that recede into the distance. Depending on the time of year, the bracken, wild grasses, trees and flowers provide a carpet of colour in front of these dramatic shapes. With the light shining through clouds the mountains and ridges appear to be almost a pattern on the fabric of the landscape.

The images are created by moving the camera in subtle ways while taking the photograph to create patterns and swathes of colour. I later added a little texture to the surface to give a sense of touching the land. I never know exactly how these images are going to work out, I find it an exciting voyage of discovery every time I make one.

About My Work
I believe in giving my clients beautiful artwork on luxury papers that hold their colours for a lifetime! For these special prints of my work I use dreamy, light textured Canson Canvas and the highest quality inks. I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.

About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use. Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper for over 450 years in France. Founded in 1557 and printers to Louis XVI, their paper was used by Voltaire and Napoleon and the Montgolfier brothers used Canson paper to make the first hot air balloon. Canson paper was used by Picasso, Ingres, Chagal, Miro and many other artists. They have been making paper and canvas for photography since this art began over 150 years ago. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.

Other Sizes
This print is available in other sizes on canvas or paper. I am happy to take custom orders, just drop me a line.

A Note on Canvases
Canvases are unframed and unmounted, they need to be stretched or framed once you get them. They are matte varnished and come with 1.5 inch (4cm) gallery wrap or with white or dark coloured sides, just let me know which you prefer. Once ready, they are carefully wrapped in acid free tissue then shipped in a sturdy art tube to ensure safe delivery. All taxes and duties to be paid by the receiver.
