In the earliest stages of development, it is estimated that a female fetus has as many as 6 million eggs. These eggs reduce steadily over time, with approximately 1 – 2 million eggs remaining at birth. When a female baby is born, she comes into the world with all the eggs she will ever have.
What is interesting for me is that while my grandmother was pregnant with my mother, my mother already carried all the eggs as a fetus, including the 1 out of this 6 million that would eventually become me.
Inspired by this, I painted an abstraction of my pregnant mother carrying me and the follicle that would become my daughter.
