Original artwork description:

From my ongoing series of pond paintings, based on many visits to upland small waters during every season and type of weather. drawings and photographic records are made in the field, and paintings developed in the studio.
Ponds help in mitigating flooding events by slowing down water run-off that can cause flooding. Additionally , a growing body of recent research shows that ponds may also be important in influencing atmospheric carbon by storing and releasing it. Experiments have shown that some ponds are able to sequester more carbon per square metre than other types of terrain. In one experiment carbon burial rates were found to be 20 – 30 times higher in small ponds than habitats such as grasslands and woodlands. This could mean that ponds are able to act as double protection against flooding, by both slowing the flow and also helping to prevent the climate conditions that cause flooding.
The painting will be removed from the stretcher frame and rolled for shipping.
