Original artwork description:

A trip that could not be due to COVID was to parts of Africa. During the pandemic our art group could not meet. A challenge started and we chose different artists or themes to inspire. One of the glass-makers chose 'Warrior - Africa".

So I looked at videos on holiday sites, images across the web and created my own Morani. The key elements of long hair and red cloth are there. The direct gaze to camera picking up on tourist photos.

I chose pastel as I like to work against the black paper when bright colours are involved with creating a 'portrait'. It helps the highlights to jump forward.

I've created a collection "Covid Creativity - Art from Lock-down". The Art Challenge between a group of artists who got to know each other in and around Hereford. Setting challenges for each other, either based on an artistic style, medium or subject. Meeting virtually to share our results.

Image 21 x 25cm (8 x 10") is completed in pastels on black cartridge paper. The drawing is in a white and cream mount in a grey frame 38 x 30 x 2.5 cm (15 x 12").

(C) of the image remains with the artist

Materials used:
