Artwork description:

This print shows a moonlit panther, inspired by a woodcut by the 18th century English artist Thomas Bewick. I wanted to create a different, softer backdrop than the one used in my 'Pink Panther' print (also listed) and also to offer more than one colour way.

Once I have designed the image, I transfer it to lino, which I then hand-carve. I print the linoprint in my studio, using a roller press. As each print is individually printed, there may be slight variations in tone and colour.

This print is made using three separate linoblocks, which are each individually inked and printed in different colours. There are two colour variations: 1) an aquamarine background, very pale yellow for the sun, moon and body of the panther and a dark blue/green for the detail on the sun, moon and panther; 2) a bright orange background, bright pink for the sun, moon and body of the panther and a darker pink for the detail on the sun, moon and panther. It is printed on soft white Somerset smooth paper. Each print has the title, edition number and my signature hand-written in pencil beneath the image. This edition is a variable edition: 'variable' means there is more than one colour way.
