This painting was created for an exhibition on the theme "illumination-light source in difficult times"
Answering myself the question of what kind of light warms me in difficult times, I recalled my grandmother’s stories about how during war and famine, families with cows had a better chance of survival. Thus, at the heart of the painting is a portrait of a cow, representing life, survival, and well-being. Another cherished memory from my carefree childhood was the tale of a moonlit cow running across the sky, radiating warmth and joy that still consoles me to this day. The cow is encased in a circular shape reminiscent of the Earth, illustrating the interconnectedness and cyclical nature of life. Golden rays of the sun emanate from the cow, meaning life-giving warmth and hope for better times. Painted flowers, touched by the sun, symbolize growth and prosperity and honor Ukrainian traditions. Ultimately, my sources of light are the story of my family with its trials and abundant love for each other, tender memories of a carefree childhood, as well as nature, reminding me of the beauty of life in its bright colors and simple, repeating patterns—from birth to renewal.
