Original artwork description:

Since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by the drawings of Ernst Haeckel, especially with the ones representing sea creatures. Growing up in a landlocked country, I was always wondering what these colorful, strangely geometrical creatures would look like, if they escaped the pages of my picture books and showed up suddenly in the forest where we would often take a walk. My artwork 'Monster' is neither plant, nor animal, exists somewhere on the border of real and fake, natural and unnatural, imagination and reality.

The work is made of 70 circle-shaped pieces of leather. All parts are carefully hand cut, with the use of cardboard patterns. The parts are glued together on the flesh side, and cut precise. Each piece is double faced: one side is made of green cow leather, the other is green calf hide, in a similar color tone. Edges are painted with four layers of green paint, by hand. Then, pieces are joint together with hand stitching, forming 7 long spirals. Finally they are woven together into one giant circular piece, the loose ends are closed with hand stitching.

Materials used:

Cow leather, calf hair, thread, silicone paint
