A recurring interest in my work, my word ‘upsidedownable’ refers to the ability for the image to be viewed either way up. Drawing inspiration from the Werner Nekes Collection of similarly reversible images I have created a series of works: reflected islands that show an abundant/barren future/past; faces that change age/gender depending on which way up you view them from.
Framed in a 'Queen Bess' brand dressmakers' pins tin, this piece depicts either a king or a queen depending on which way up you look at it. Attaching the piece to the wall using a small magnet allows it to be spun around.
Mixed media on paper collage, domed glass, vintage tin
