Artwork description:

This image is created from original photographs taken along Worthing Beach along the East Sussex Coast in England. It has been created by layering and juxtaposing up to 40 different photographs to create an entirely new scene, which captures a sense of the coastline but leaves room for your own imagination.

I have become increasingly interested in the way that lots of abstract details combine to create a figurative image. I was fascinated by the fishing ephemera left laying on the beach; the planks and the ropes. They looked like the marks I might make when drawing such as lines and scribbles. The flaking paint on the weathered fishermen boxes reminded me of the marks made in the sand by the incoming tide, like a moiré pattern. I used these to construct the environment in which the boat sits.
