Original artwork description:

This painting was inspired by my husband's battle with depression and my perception of his struggles.
I felt unable to reach him, and couldn't read his thoughts, though they were obviously troubled.
I made several studies before painting the final piece, one in pastel to explore colour, one in acrylic to explore the expressive effects of texture.
The background is painted in impasto, and scratched and dripped with paint; along with the twists of the sheets, these marks represent the chaos in his head.
