'Modern' art which many people will falsely assume to be all abstract art, actually covers the period from the 1860s to the 1970s, and therefore includes the Impressionists, Romantics, Realists, Fauvists, Cubists, Expressionists etc. 'Modern' art merely means art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation, ie, it refers to the time when things started going really weird. We are now in the post modern or contemporary period. And, surely, nothing can be more 'modern/post modern/contemporary' than putting a piece of modern art in an antique frame. PLEASE NOTE, however, that this frame is not real; it has been painted onto the canvas by hand.
