Bo Again
This pastel drawing – 17-12-24 – 1 is the first one of this month’s live drawing and painting event. Held in municipal centre ‘De Blauwe Tram’ in Leidschendam as usual. This time we had model Bo come over who couldn’t make it last time. Then we had her friend Jens, a great model in his own right even though it was debut. She on the other hand is an experienced model and sits for us regularly.
Last Time
Last time I remember I drew her in two reclining positions. Especially the second session at that time I found my view on her challenging. During a live session it is hard to create a resemblance to her facial features in such a position. When someone’s face is positioned horizontally you have to tilt your eyes 90 degrees in order to check that resemblance. That is very tiring. Besides that, to me these sessions are not about the clear and sound likeness of a portrait.
Bar Stool Seated
A bar stool came to mind. There are plently of them to be found in the De Blauwe Tram. For no particularly reason we didn’t come up with this idea before. It proved to be just perfect. A great vertical position with her hand over the back of the stool. Her legs a bit were positioned a bit slanted downwards. Finding the right proportions wasn’t too difficult. Therefor I had plenty of time to finetune all highlights in her posture. Afterwards Bo said she looks like a younger version of herself. To me Bo still looks young in my eyes. Back home I changed my signature though. Perhaps a bit too big and presumptuous for a study and and artwork I can put up for sale. The reason is I find it good enough for doing so.
