Blue Jay is one of the most beloved colorful birds by artists. There are many paintings of this little Northern American bird done with all sorts of media. Even though I haven’t seen it in real yet, unfortunately… I couldn’t resist doing one image of Blue Jay on my own. In truth, everything about the look of it, but especially the colors, is attractive and very inviting to draw or paint. I called my painting “Mischievous M. Blue Jay” as I read that it may occasionally impersonate the calls of raptors, especially those of the red-tailed hawks, possibly to test if a hawk is in the vicinity, though also possibly to scare off other birds that may compete for food sources.
This piece is one of the series “Mister Birdy” I work on at the moment. Alone or with its companion Mr. Kingfisher this painting can become a great wall decoration for a child's bedroom or summer veranda or even a living room near windows being surrounded by plants and flowers.
