US Airways Flight 1549 made an emergency water landing in the Hudson River. The incident made heroes of the cockpit crew, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III and First Officer Jeff Skiles. They brought the Airbus A319 to a safe landing on the Hudson River after the jet lost both engines from goose strikes just after taking off from LaGuardia on Jan. 15, 2009. All 155 occupants safely evacuated the airliner, which was still virtually intact though partially submerged and slowly sinking. They were quickly rescued by nearby ferries and other watercraft.
