Minerva unlike her Roman counterpart was born from a chilly day in the south of France last christmas, driving along the south coast of france we stopped the car and jumped out to take phtoographs of the most beautiful sunset I'd ever seen. It was almost fate, not in some miraculoous biblical way just a small set of actions took me to that exact spot, with those exact rocks and a foamy sea that glistened with light. It was just the most perfect timing. Capturing photographs on my phone I knew it right there, this was going to be the first piece of 2020. We returned home that evening and I sketchd out a watercolour study and instead of deterring me it broght me even more satisfaction and confirled that Minerva was going to be my first painting of the year.
Her journey wasn't a simple one, she's taken five weeks of full time work, frustration and alot of doubt but even in that darkness tberes also pure and wholesome joy when at last everything seems to come together. I am completely in love with this piece and hope she finds a perfect home.
I have been wanting to focus more on large paintings for quite some time now and so this year is dedicated to them, I wanted to take my time with them, grow with them and make as many mistakes as possible pursuing the vision I have in my mind. Each piece in 2020 will be released along side some of their studies and as limited edition prints.
'Minerva' Is framed in a simple black floating frame. She is 100x80cm oil on premium cotton canvas. Signed and varnished.
