This is a sugar-lift etching called 'Mill River Ripples 1' which has been inspired by the lovely reflections in the water of a stream near where I live.
A sugar solution has been painted directly onto the copper plate, which is then put into an aquatint box and covered with a fine resin dust which is heated to fix to the plate. A waxy ground is rolled over the plate and then it is put into warm water, where the sugar dissolves. Lastly, it is put into the acid to bite the areas of tone which I have painted with the sugar solution.
The print measures 20 x 14 inches and is printed onto Somerset satin 300gsm paper, using black ink mixed with a little indigo. It will be sent in a cardboard tube and carefully wrapped in tissue paper.
