Original artwork description:

Middle beach Studland, Dorset
It was cold that day by the bay,
Hints of the glowing warm colours in the sky,
The moody violet clouds,
Muted jade sea,
Bracken and sparse beech trees.

Words and thoughts
Original impressionist watercolour on cold pressed Fabriano watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb.
I used sporadic washes over the paper in a repetitions. Each time for the back washes I would use this process, mixing as I go. I placed the warm colours first using my sable hair brush and then with a small filbert brush I became more expressive. Swirling the brush for the cloud movements over the light.
I left areas of white for the sea tide and areas on the beach. I used a pressing technique with a filbert brush on dry paper to create the bracken detail and a fan brush dragging up for the grasses, plus scraping out the paint with my nail.
Every time I go to Studland the colours are so beautiful to paint. The light is forever changing in the bay and this was inspired in early March.

Materials used:

Cold pressed Fabriano 300gsm 140lb watercolour paper, sable hair brush, filbert brush, fan brush, Peobeo watercolours,
