Oil on canvas, 10x12 in, unframed. 'Messages' is part of a series of meditative still-life works where I present the subjects out of context to focus the viewer's attention on the objects and their qualities. 'Messages' is a Scottish word for groceries and I had just bought veg for supper and put them down on a painting that was wrapped up for the framer when I got to the studio. The afternoon light was falling just right and a still-life was born.
