This painting was inspired by the song, “What Mercy Means” by the Martins, a gospel trio. The song was written by the great Lowell Alexander and first appeared on the Martins’ 2003 “Above It All” CD. The song is an upbeat celebration of God’s great mercy, and I particularly like the lyrics that say, “Mercy means, at the heart of regret, God forgives and God forgets, Like being shackled in chains and finding you’re free, Living again is what mercy means!” This painting is part of the EZ Ship group, which greatly reduces the shipping cost because the overall painting is made up of (6) 12” x 12” canvases that are joined by wing nuts that can easily be disassembled for shipping. So this 24” x 36” painting fits into a box small enough to accommodate a 12” x 12” format, and can therefore be shipped for a fraction of the cost. Then, at arrival, the client easily reassembles the individual panels (no tools required!), and the simple hardware is included, of course, as are written instructions and a video. The painting itself is a dynamic expression of God’s mercy, which features hard-edged square elements (meant to express the impacts of those choices we all regret), which are contrasted and overcome by white circles, meant to express God’s infinite and invincible mercy, grace and love, which heals and restores our life, joy and peace. The painting has been given a satin varnish for protection and hanging hardware is included. It should be noted that, due to differences in manufacturing, fractional variations exist amongst any group of wooden stretcher bars, though all are marketed as 12". All panels are square, and they assemble flush; however, on rare occasions, there might be a slight variation in the outer edges, which have been painted so that the client may choose to hang the painting without a frame, if desired.
