Original artwork description:

Introducing Major “Mercury” who is a renowned drum horse for the British Household Cavalry. Along with his colleague James Ballantine.

Mercury was named by The Queen & has met him on several occasions including Trooping the colour. He was originally named Dyfed Celt by his world class breeders in Wales.

The painting was inspired by a stunning photo by equine photographer Candela Gonzalez who I greatly thank for the use of her work.

The photograph was taken in an arena in Morocco & I love how the coloured lighting & spot light cast their shadows onto the subject

The painting is my biggest to date & a large amount of time was given to every detail of the horse, regalia etc. I really wanted to show my abilities & challenge myself as an animal artist using my usual medium of acrylics on canvas. The artwork was used as the centre piece for my 1st Solo exhibition in March 2020.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint
