A linocut inspired by the annual Mendip Challenge.
This is a sponsored 30 or 20 mile hike across the top of the Mendip hills in Somerset from Wells to Weston-super-Mare. I have taken part in this for several years and it is glorious up there in June, with a great friendly spirit amongst the thousands of walkers that take part.
This view is based on one of the last legs of the journey, walking towards Crook's Peak.
The Mendips are a ridge of limestone hills south of Bristol in Somerset. They run from the edge of Weston-super-Mare on the coast eastwards to Frome valley, passing some beautiful lakes, the Somerset Levels and the tiny city of Wells on the way. The area is known for Cheddar Gorge and several cave systems, as well as the remains of Roman lead and silver mines. A landscape of dry stone walls and woody combes.
This is a hand-pulled linocut, roughly A4, in water-based inks in an edition of 50. It is printed on acid-free paper, signed by me, The paper is slightly larger than the image to enable you to frame the image with a standard-sized mount.
I send smaller prints wrapped in cellophane in a reinforced envelope or parcel. Larger prints or international deliveries may be sent rolled in a tube with protective tissue.
