This painting was inspired by some photos I came across recently - they were taken on a visit to France a few years ago. It is not an accurate depiction but has all the elements of the view that I enjoyed each time I drove into Carcasonne. The mountains are distant and still have just a little bit of snow left then there is a light mist hanging around the bottom among the trees then the magnificent view of poppies in the foreground. The composition is continued on the edges so that the work can be hung without framing if so desired.
