We humans can love our pets enough to make them part of our family. It's not the same with plants, but when a flower head - a cactus, for example - accompanies us for many decades, we take it with us from apartment to apartment, from place to place and it grows older together with us and it is a constant in life our life, then we like him very much and he is also (almost) part of the family.
