Medusa of course refers to the mythological creature whose hair was made of snakes and who can petrify you with a gaze. I like working with hair because it can give movement to the painting's composition.
This work is inspired by the typical pose of the models in the period of the Vienna Secession. The body is deformed as I usually do both when I paint and when I draw for comic books. I tried to add a touch of "now" putting a pair of Doc Martens boots on my Medusa.
After using gesso primer on the canvas I outlined the figure with India ink and only after that I painted it using oil colors to get a brilliant effect about it.
This artwork is part of my study in the human body and its stylization.
