Meditation - by F. Hayez - Mixed media with oil paint, enamel and digital graphics on canvas 67x90 cm.
I have always been fascinated by the paintings of the Old Masters, to open a dialogue with them, to build a bridge between the ancient and the contemporary; to combine Pop strategies and suggestions with the art of the past. I was inspired by the Venetian Francesco Hayez's Beautiful with Bare Breasts - the greatest protagonist of Italian Romanticism. The Meditation - 1850. In the foreground a young woman, beautiful and provocative, her gaze naive, meditates, we would say today on our culture, on the fate of humanity. What is at stake, whose sacrifice? The painting has been published several times in important Italian magazines, and has participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
A bridge between the ancient and the contemporary. I was inspired by the beauty with bare breasts by the Venetian Francesco Hayez - the greatest protagonist of Italian Romanticism. MEDITATION - 1850. In the foreground a young woman, beautiful and provocative, her gaze naive, an allegory of freedom as ‘liberty’ was often depicted at the time with a woman with bare breasts (see ‘Liberty leading the people’, a manifesto work of Romanticism in France). Meditate, we would say today on our culture, on the fate of humanity. What is at stake, whose sacrifice?
The painting has been published several times in major Italian magazines, and has participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad. In digital form, it was seen at: SPECTRUM miami - Nov.30 - Dec.4, 2016.
